The incubator originated as a complement to the Master’s level course on Social Marketing at USI; an interdisciplinary course taught by Prof. Suzanne Suggs each year. The course teaches students about social change initiatives and innovations that utilize effective behavior change communication and are based on a comprehensive understanding of the problem.

The incubator enables students to realize projects developed in that course and others, moving from conceptual ideas to practical work, while collaborating with partners from USI and the local community. In addition, students are mentored on entrepreneurial skills, supporting potential economic and environmental opportunities in spin-off projects and businesses. Finally, SINC also serves as a resource for scientific research, technological innovation, and methodological advancements through its dissemination activities of sustainability projects and policies.
